WELCOME!

This blog was created as a resource for the Athens University branch members to access in their efforts to do family history and build up the kingdom of heaven.

Genealogy, by Theodore Gorka, of South Carolina.
Let's start at the very beginning, a very nice place to start.

In the August 2003 Ensign there is an article written by Boyd K. Packer entitled, "Your Family History: Getting Started."  It is a wonderful article and I recommend you click the link and read it to prepare and get excited for this great work.

President Packer suggests putting a cardboard box in a central spot of your home, and start gathering important family history items, for example, documents, pictures, clippings, news papers, etc.

Once you have collected enough of these items, begin to fill out a pedigree chart, family group sheet, or even start writing the beginning of a family history article on a family ancestor you knew.

We encourage you to look to your Membership Guide, if you do not have one please contact a branch presidency member or follow our pdf link. The Family History section at LDS.ORG is also a wonderful starting point, the "Getting Started" section will help guide you, especially if this is your first step.
Please navigate around the site for specific instructions and links for where ever you are in your personal family history work.
